Badminton is the world's fastest racquet sport: a shuttle can leave the racket at a speed of almost 200 mph. Today’s players compete in a lightning-fast sport which demands constant, highly concentrated actions: running, jumping, twisting, stretching, running backwards and striking. In a typical two-game singles match, top players will cover nearly every inch of the court and travel more than a mile. Great techniques and physical fitness alone are not enough to win a badminton game, a successful player must play smart. Using quick thinking to adapt his/her play to the opponent’s tactics and weaknesses. Using varying speed and position and deceptive plays to earn an edge over the opponent.
IIT Kanpur provides excellent facilities for badminton enthusiasts with 5 indoor wooden courts. 3 of them are housed in the New SAC. The other 2 are at the Old Sports Complex. The courts are open from 6 am to 11am and 4 pm to 9 pm on all days except Sunday when they open from 6am to 9am and 5pm to 9pm. Badminton rackets, shuttles and non-marking shoes are the required equipments and all of these can be issued to a student against his/her ID card at the New SAC and Old Sports Complex reception. Apart from this, every hall of residence also has outdoor badminton courts and students can issue required equipments from the Sports Secretaries of the HEC of the hall.

As it is true for any sport, physical fitness is of prime importance. Hence, the club organizes conditioning camp of around 40 days. It also helps to increase willpower to forgo the pleasure of early morning sleep which is a big plus on the expedition as it is always advisable to start early. More emphasis is placed on completing the course of the exercises than just becoming a super athlete. The training schedule ensures that the individual attains the minimum requirement for the activity.

Shooting Club at IIT Kanpur is one of a kind to feed your craving of perfection. A very new club, it was formed with the sole objective of uncovering the best and the brightest assets among the campus community who share the passion of perfection.
Shooting originated as a means of survival, and it was practiced in order to hunt. After the Industrial Revolution, shooting evolved into an elite sport. It is predominantly a skill-based sport where consistency, accuracy, and concentration are key features over one particular body type. There are 2 categories in shooting sports, 1. Pistol: Short firearms held with one unsupported hand in a standing position. Different pistols used for different events e.g. air pistols that use compressed air to discharge lead pellets, rapid fire pistols in which 5 pellets are shot in quick succession and traditional or free pistols which shoot one pellet at a time. 2. Rifles: Shoulder firearms. Air rifles use compressed air to discharge lead pellets. Rifles are fired in either a prone, standing, or kneeling position depending on the event, and the “three position†events incorporate all three.

General health and athletic conditioning: The one most obvious benefit of boxing is that it’s a great form of cardiovascular exercise. It improves stamina to a great extent and helps burning body fat, thus lending you a lean, fit body naturally. Cardio kick boxing workouts allow you to burn out 350 to 500 calories in just an hour. Moreover, boxing drills help improve reflexes and strength.
Focus: Boxing isn’t as much a sport of power as it is of tactics. Knowing when and where to strike often overcomes any lack of physical prowess. You learn how to fix your eyes on a moving target, which combination of punches to go for, all the while trying to evade strikes from the opponent. Sometimes, you have to be patient, gauge the opponent acutely, lure him into making a mistake, and then hit him on the counter. At times, boxing becomes a game of chess-albeit a more physically demanding one. Rage and Serenity: It’s fun to hit the heavy bag as hard as you can. But boxing isn’t a show of strength. Many a time, it’s important to throw lighter, quicker punches, because the harder you punch, the faster you’ll be fatigued. At times, boxing is about curbing the urge to go all out, and thinking smart. Thus, you learn to tame your mind to your will. You learn to achieve the point between rage and serenity.

“When the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous, when hope hardly seems worth having, just mount a bicycle and go out for a spin down the road, without thought on anything but the ride you are taking.†Sherlock Holmes author, Arthur Conan Doyle, Scientific American, 1896. We arrange cycling trips almost every weekend (mostly Sundays). Our ride distances mainly vary between 30 and 50 km. We also cover long distances over 100 km.

The sport is called “Ultimate†because it is considered to be the ultimate sport.
“Who gets more air than a basketball player, more floor than a rugby player and pulls at every tournament? That’s an Ultimate Player.â€
It is an exciting, non-contact team sport played with a flying disc (Frisbee) by thousands all over the world. Ultimate is a fast-paced game, demanding its players to develop razor-sharp throwing skills and immense stamina and agility. The basic aim of the game is to score a goal by catching the Frisbee in the opponent team’s end zone after passing among each other and avoiding the opponent team members who are trying to get the possession.
Ultimate Frisbee Hobby Group is a new addition to the sports culture at IIT Kanpur. We are a family, a community of Ultimate playing people in the campus. Our vision is to ensure that everyone in the campus has access and support to play Ultimate. We also have an Institute Ultimate team and we wish to take IIT Kanpur at a respectable position in competitive Ultimate in India.
In India, Ultimate is mostly played as a mixed team of men and women to promote gender equality. Ultimate can become an icon for gender equality in sports at IITK too.
We play 3-4 times every week, especially on the weekends. We hold regular workshops, throughout the semester. We also conduct “Hat†tournaments where people can register individually and compete in teams allotted by us.

Archery is the practice or skill of using a bow to shoot arrows. As a sport, archery requires skills of precision, control, focus, repetition and determination. It is available to be practised by all, no matter age, gender or ability, and is a widespread pastime in both developed and developing countries.
Archery is often in the public eye, both as an important sport on the Olympic Programme, and thanks to popular culture.
Starting with the Lord of the Rings trilogy, archery was featured in a run of big-budget Hollywood blockbusters, including The Hunger Games, The Avengers and The Hobbit franchises, as well as in small screen productions like Arrow.
Beware: Archery is addictive. One shot can have you hooked for a lifetime.
Archery is a sport that most people would have wanted to pursue as kids but haven’t done so due to lack of awareness and facilities. The Archery club at IIT Kanpur aims to promote the sport by giving the residents an opportunity to be a part of the select few who know this sport in our country.
